Kitchen Decor Tips

Posted on July 19, 2021

Does it matter what type of kitchen I choose to remodel? A question I get asked a lot. The answer to this question is both yes and no. There are things you can do while kitchen decorating that will make your kitchen safe, but there is also a variety of things you can do that will make it unsafe.

Yes, you can use kitchen decorating to create a safe and inviting environment for your family and friends. It doesn’t matter what type of kitchen you have now or the changes you are planning; there is still room to create a cozy and relaxing space. You just need to pay attention to some safety tips when kitchen decorating.

Let’s start with lighting. Lighting is very important to the overall look and feel of any kitchen decorating project. Your kitchen lighting should reflect the light from the kitchen work surface, creating a warm and inviting glow. The kitchen cabinets should be well lit as well. Overcrowding the kitchen with high watt light bulbs will create an effect that is bright but also harsh.

Another factor to consider is the use of candles. Candles add a soft and relaxing glow to your kitchen decorating project. But, they should be used in moderation and never placed where people are likely to fall or seek refuge. Do keep in mind the possibility of someone tripping on them as well. Keep candles away from kitchen cabinets and other high traffic areas in the kitchen.

Now, let’s talk about some other kitchen decorating safety tips. First, try to think like a chef! If your kitchen counters are wooden, are they lined with wax paper? Do you hang kitchen towels on countertops or have towel racks custom installed? If so, safety tip number one is to put the towels on the rack for people to use instead of laying on the counter.

Many people have a habit of topping off hot pots and pans with shiny items such as decorative spoons. This can cause hot items to leak and create a dangerous cooking environment. To avoid this, use non-stick skillets on pot and pans. Even if you don’t use a skillet, use spoons instead of shiny ones!

The most important safety tip is to pay attention to your kitchen environment. For example, do not stack large items on small table tops or drop heavy objects from the kitchen ceiling. Do not put items in ovens that are too large. Keep things out of reach of children and pets.

When you are finished renovating your kitchen, make sure you have fun! But remember to keep safe tips like the ones mentioned above in mind. This way you can create an efficient kitchen that will keep you and your family safe while enjoying your space! I hope this article was helpful in answering the question, “Is my kitchen decor safe?” Let’s have fun with kitchen decorating!
